Professional musician Mike Cahen and music producer Steve Forward will take you through the history of guitar recording to tips and tricks to use for successful recording in the studio and on stage. The more lecture-style presentation on Saturday will cover the history & evolution of guitar recording;
Recording guitar in the digital domain: benefits & disadvantages; Recording environment (studio, stage). Mike & Steve will talk about recording acoustic guitars covering areas lik D.I (active/passive), acoustic guitar amplifiers, Plectrum choice and Tunings, as well as electric guitars covering open closed back cabinets, front and back microphone placement, ambient mics and proximity microphones. They will speak about session work and end with a Q&A session.
The session on Sunday will go more into practical detail. For recording of acoustic guitars they will address capos, clothing and recording acoustic guitar and vocals simultaneously. For electric guitars they will speak about multi-amps or dual miking, stereo miking, transistor and valve amp, double tracking, chord inversions, Leslie cabinets, headphone balance and performance. And especially give advice on communication with engineer and producer as well as on finding endorsements (finding the contacts, targeting a company). They will also address playing live on tours and again end with a Q&A session.

Mike Cahen is a London born guitarist has a wealth of playing experience including session work in London, Spain and France. Selected artist credits include Lionel Ritchie, Ruf’s Blues Caravan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Elkie Brooks, Suzi Quatro. Personal projects: RogMikEnzo with drummer Enzo Todesco (Gino Vanelli, Frank Gambale) and bassist Roger Inniss.
His current projects include recording with bassist Steve York (Dr John, Eric Clapton) keyboardist Duncan Mackay (Alan Parsons Project, Colosseum) and producer Steve Forward.
Music studies: initially self-taught he attended the GIT in Los Angeles and graduated in 1986.
He also works as a consultant for equipment promotion, community management, distribution and validation for FX pedals, amplifiers and guitar pickups.
